Brazil

Breathtaking scenery, sensuous rhythms, an abundance of vivid colour, huge dollops of Latin American vibrancy and  locals with an unashamed lust for life who can turn just about any event into an excuse for a street party. If these are some of the things you look for in a holiday, look no further than Brazil. Here we have two new varied and very different trips which can’t fail to appeal.

Chapada  - Mountain Bike Adventure  - £1695 + flights
May 6th - 16th :  September 9th - 19th

Chapada Diamantina is one of the most fascinating natural parks in Brazil and there really is no better way to experience it than on two wheels. We’ve designed this mid-range mountain bike adventure around the natural highlights of the park to ensure that you get the very most out of it. Lush green valleys dotted with tropical flowers, crystal clear underground grottos, massive waterfalls and twisted red rock formations create an impressive & varied biking paradise. The region which was, until relatively recently a refuge for diamond hunters who came from all over Brazil in search of fortune, is now a protected area making this a peaceful & special biking destination.

Santa Catarina & Rio - Classic Road Riding - £1825 + flights
August 14th - 25th : September 25th - 6th October

Another new trip for 2009 this spectacular tour takes deep us into one of Brazil’s most impressive landscapes. Based around one of Latin America’s most renowned stage races, the Tour de Santa Catarina, our route blends idyllic beaches and tropical rainforests with climbs of alpine proportions and adds a Latin twist. After
sampling some impressive race highlights and challenges we’ll head up to Rio for a grand finale dash up the hairpins of the Corcovado to see the world-famous Cristo Redentor.

Japan

For something completely different why not join us in Japan? It’s been around for a while (our trip, not the country!) and remains a firm favourite. Our Japanese tours are much more than cycling trips. Rather, they are an opportunity to really experience and soak up Japanese culture and meet local people eager to extend hospitality and share their traditions and wonderful cuisine.

Japan - Temples & Tarmac
- Classic Road  - £2850 + flights
June 12th - June 28th
After experiencing the hustle and bustle of the modern cultural capital of Kyoto we’ll leave the well-worn tourist trail in favour of the well-paved backroads of this beautiful and tranquil country. Our Temples, Tea and Tarmac tour is an unforgettable journey into a different world which carefully balances superb road riding with a fascinating insight into the varied culture of Japan and its people.

                                      UK Weekends and Holidays 2009

Crikey is that the time?! The daffodils have burst into colour, the lambs are bouncing around the fields and it’s at last the time to get your shorts on and what is more, today is Earth Day !!

We kicked off the year with a busy weekend of Mountain Biking in Derbyshire and an easy Road Cycling weekend in The Cotswolds, and with more good weather on the horizon, here’s a round-up of a few forthcoming UK trips which we can still squeeze you on.

UK Mountain Bike Weekends

  Shropshire - 24th to 26th April - £235 - Grade 3 - 4

If you’ve not been to Shropshire, then you’ve really missed out! Small and compact, it’s an area that combines the odd cheeky Skedaddle climb with fast grassy descents and some not too daunting technical sections. We also have Road Cycling Weekends scheduled here for June and August too.Derbyshire Dark Peak - 29th to 31st May - £210 - Grade 4 - 5Superb riding around Edale, Ladybower Reservoir and the challenge of Jacob’s Ladder…like a Jacob’s Club, but a little more satisfying in the end! Now B&B based, with rides straight from the accommodation, this is an area just bursting with great trails.

Quantocks - 5th to 7th June - £225 - Grade 3
Skedaddle to Somerset and enjoy an area brimming with smooth singletrack, big views and beautiful woodland trails. With good intermediate riding suitable for most and with the pub serving tasty fayre, classic ale and ‘killer’ local cider it’s a hard weekend to beat!Derbyshire Introductory - 12 to 14 June - £210 - Grade 1 - 2

Check out Chatsworth, trundle along the Tissington Trail and see the tarts of Bakewell on this easy weekend of riding based in the White Peak of Derbyshire. Ideal for those getting just starting out.

Highlands - May, July, August, Sept - £845 - Grade 4 -5

With the prevailing winds at your back, a wee dram in your belly and your eyes scanning Loch Ness for the monster, this 235 mile 90% off road route across Scotland from Loch Hourn on the west coast to Montrose on the east continues to delight Skedaddlers.West Country Way - June, July, August - £545 - Grade 3 - 4

UK Self Guided Options

As well as running numerous C2C and Hadrian’s Cycleway rides from our Newcastle base, we’ve a full range of trips throughout Northumberland, Scotland, The New Forest and Cornwall.
Here’s a couple of trips to whet your appetite!!

Lake District

We’ve a series of rides suitable for families or those in search of easy cycling and for those looking for a few more miles each day, the routes can be easily adapted.

For those after a guided trip than check out the Saddle Skedaddle Introductory weekend of Mountain Biking over the weekend of 21 August - last places for this and Derbyshire from 24 July.

Cotswolds

Cotswolds   It doesn’t get much better than cycling through the thatched roof villages of the Cotswolds, an area that is a quintessential part of England.

We explore the quiet country lanes linking these villages, with accommodation in carefully selected B&Bs and evenings spent in great local inns and restaurants.

Easy mountain bike weekends here in August and Sept. too

                         European Self Guided Options
France

France   Choose from one of seven very different Skedaddle gentle French cycling holidays, all offering a fantastic cycling experience, brimming with all things synonymous with France; fine wines, delicious food, ancient sites, all of which can be explored by bike during your cycling day.

Fly, drive or take a ferry or train to the start point and you’ll soon be Skedaddlin’ in style.

Tuscany

Tuscany   With time spent in Lucca and Vinci, this holiday is simply a delight and is suitable for those after an easy paced trip.

Sardinia

European Road Bliss   With lots of self guided options available throughout the island, we think we’ve got it pretty much covered….though you’ll need to wait till September now as its way, too hot!!!

The ever popular Coast to Coast may be done as an off road or road only option; Island Flavours explores the southern coastline and may be done as an easier option on our Gentle Flavours, Costa Verde is there for the mountain bikers and the Explorer is spot on for the road riders out there.

With our Skedaddle Italia base close to the beautiful Chia beach, we can easily adapt things for you if what we are offering just isn’t quite right and we also offer a range of fully guided trips here.

Spain

Spain   Choose either our Sierras to the Sea (also available as a guided option), that starts amongst the rugged splendour of Ronda and ends on the beaches of Tarifa or our White Villages, that links the Pueblos Blancos of the region (clue in the title) as we head from Alcala to Arcos de la Frontera.

Both trips are available until the end of June, after which we head up to ride in the Picos de Europa (MTB and Road Options) and then from October to December, we’re back in the south once again and even have a Christmas / New Year MTB trip too

Corsica

Grand Tour of the Mediterranean   After several years of guided trips on The Beautiful Isle, we’ve developed a self guided mountain biking and a leisure cycling  programme that is easily adapted to suit all levels.

The trip is perfect for those who fancy getting a few miles under their belt and who are of a reasonable fitness level.

Guided road riding option available too. Next date 25 August

Lake Garda

With Renato, Naomi, Simone and Massimo our guides from Sardinia escaping the heat of the island until September, there’s no need to worry as they’ll be by Lake Garda ready to meet your every request during our cycling holidays and mountain biking holidays.

It’s that time of the year again! The greatest sporting event on earth began in Monaco at the weekend and if previous years are anything to go by, we know that you’re all going to start dreaming about heading into the hills yourselves.

With dozens of fantastic Classic Road departures scheduled for the remainder of the season, it doesn’t have to be just a dream, but if you are planning on joining a trip, particularly one of our big mountain tours, don’t leave it too late - these tours are popular and places are limited!

The following are just a selection of what we have available.

France & Italy - Grand Tour, Alps, Dolomites

Grand Tour of the Med. - 3rd to 14th Sept. - LIMITED SPACE
A wonderful adventure which starts and finishes on the same roads as the first couple of stages of this year’s Tour de France. The Grand Tour also takes in the wild and rugged beauty of northern Corsica and the rolling vine-covered hills of Tuscany. We’ll visit the enchanting villages of the Cinque Terra as we ride the very same route the pros took during Stage 12 of this year’s Giro and finish with a romp around Fausto Coppi’s stomping ground in the cool mountain roads of Piemonte, before heading back to Nice.

France - Alps Passes - 8th to 15th Aug. - LIMITED SPACE
A week of genuinely classic riding over some of the most famous Tour de France mountains. We’ll be taking in the likes of the Forclaz, Colombiere, Galibier and of course, Alpe d’Huez, all of which are guaranteed to challenge and exhilarate. The August departure is confirmed with very limited remaining availability. These tours are extremely popular, we advise you not to hang around!!

Dolomites & Alps - Aug. 29th to Sept. 5th - LAST PLACES
Our Dolomites and Italian Alps tour is our most challenging and serious road trip to date. Beginning close to the tranquil shores of Lake Como, our journey will take us over some of the more feared passes of the Giro d’Italia, including the Gavia, the 48 hairpins of the Stelvio and the Mortirolo - the mountain once described by Lance Armstrong as the toughest in the world. A very satisfying tour for riders looking for a challenge.

Raid Alpine - September 5th - 13th - GOOD AVAILABILITY
The French Alps are home to the most famous Tour de France climbs and our Raid Alpine tour is a must for anyone who has ever wondered what it’s like to ride a ‘real’ mountain. Beginning in the Alpine town of Thonnon Les Bains beside the border of Switzerland, we’ll take in 43 climbs, over 740 kms before we end our adventure by the warm waters of the Med in Antibes. Along the way we’ll pop over the border to Italy and we’ll encounter the highest mountain road in Europe. Be amongst the first to join us on this new tour, destined to be a Skedaddle favourite!

Three Classic Islands - Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily

Sardinian Coastal Explorer April 12th-20th & May 24th-June 1st

  Sardinia Explorer - Sept 12th - 19th and October 24th - 31st GOOD AVAILABILITY ON BOTH DATES
Sardinia is famed as Italy’s most exotic island and our Coastal Explorer Tour will help you understand exactly why. Beginning in Alghero in the north, the trip does “exactly what it says on the tin” and follows the stunningly beautiful coastline all the way to the southern point of the island. A moderately graded tour, manageable and yet challenging enough to keep everybody interested.

Corsica - August 30th - September 5th (rescheduled)
GOOD AVAILABILITY
Over the years we have taken more Skedaddlers to Corsica than any other classic road destination and some just keep coming back for more. Now is your chance to come and see what all the fuss is about. Stunning beautiful scenery, rugged mountains, quiet roads and a superb but thoroughly rideable route makes this a perfect road cycling holiday destination.

Sicily - September 20th - 27th GUARANTEED DEPARTURE
A warm and sunny climate, vivid colors and an abundance of mouth watering fresh produce and beautiful countryside make this moderately paced tour through the rolling hills of western Sicily the perfect holiday destination. Sicilian terrain is less challenging than its neighbours Sardinia and Corsica, making this a great choice for riders who don’t want to push too hard.

Pyrenees and the Picos

Pyrenees Mountain Challenge June 6th-15th & September 20th-29th

Classic Road Rides
  Pyrenees Challenge - Sept 18th - 27th  - GOOD AVAILABILITY
It’s bigger and better than ever before, extended to 10 days this year so we can give you even more fantastic riding and cover more passes in Europe’s most incredible mountain range. Designed to appeal to riders who love the “ups and downs” of high mountain riding this is a challenging but rewarding tour. Now just TWO places left for July!!

Spain - Picos de Europa - Aug. 16th - 22nd - GOOD AVAILABILITY
A delightful and challenging tour set in the temperate climate of Green Spain. Based around the market town of Potes and scenic Cangas de Onis, we’ll spend a week divided by two centres enjoying some superb riding in what is to a large extent an undiscovered road cycling paradise. Expect to climb some serious mountains and see some serious scenery too.

UK Weekends

Cotswold’s Introductory Weekend - April 18th-20th

South Shropshire - Aug. 7th to 9th - GUARANTEED DEPARTURE.
An excellent weekend packed with spectacular scenery and quiet country lanes in the beautiful county of Shropshire. Gentle green pastures and shady woodlands combine with the surrounding hills and the odd “cheeky climb” to create our most exciting mid-level weekend.

North Wales - Aug. 28th - 31st - GUARANTEED DEPARTURE
Our longest running and most popular weekend. Running over the Bank Holiday we bring you three days of outstanding cycling on some of the most dramtic roads in the British Isles. If you live in the UK this is probably the best riding you can get without setting foot on a plane! Don’t delay, the trip always sells out and space is limited.

Costa Rica - Christmas / New Year Departure

Costa Rica
- December 22nd  to Jan. 2nd - LAST PLACES

Don’t delay if you’re thinking of spending Christmas and New Year with us in Costa Rica - places are now extremely limited and flights to Central America are starting to become scarce!
If you are fortunate enough to be one of the last to sign up, you’ll be assured of a fabulous experience as we ride from the Caribbean coast to the shores of the Pacific, taking in the best of what the country has to offer in the process.

Then two weeks in the stunning scenery of Chile and Argentina takes some beating. This is a holiday suitable for most levels and offers a wonderful insight into an area few explore by bike. We also have trips here in October and November too if you can’t escape the in-laws at Christmas. Two differing trips to a  place brimming with wildlife and bursting with dramatic vistas around every corner.
